Aimless Love, Aimless Blogging

by LK on October 16, 2008

John Prine writes great lyrics. Aimless Love was released in 1984. The title track, like many Prine songs, conjures up many questions.

He’s just a small fry, a bit too gun shy
To have his heart touched without a glove
He looks at strangers as potential dangers
Trying to steal his aimless love

Love has no mind, it can’t spell unkind
It’s never seen a heart shaped like a valentine
For if love knew him, it’d walk up to him
And introduce him to an aimless love

I been out walking, kinda pillow talking
To anyone that has the time for me
For there are some folks they think that love chokes
It ties and keeps them from being free

Love has no mind, it cant spell unkind
Its never seen a heart shaped like a valentine
For if love knew you, it’d walk up to you
And introduce you to an aimless love

Do you look at strangers as potential dangers
Trying to steal your aimless love

Love has no mind, it cant spell unkind
Its never seen a heart shaped like a valentine
For if love knew you, it’d walk up to you
And introduce you to an aimless love
And introduce you to an aimless love

I don’t want to introduce you to an aimless love, but I can show you an aimless blogger. In fact, I can show you countless aimless bloggers. But first in line, is me.

My aimlessness is not without purpose though. Daily I’m exposed to a blog, and a blogger, whose intent (aim) seems to be “making money.” Translation: making EASY money. Passive income is a phrase that is often tossed around. Translation: money for nothing.

My blogging isn’t for anybody other than myself. I don’t write for you. I don’t write for your buddy. I write for me. Online therapy perhaps, but not likely. Writing is the real aim. Just write. Something. Anything. Good. Bad. It’s all okay. Just write. Convey an idea. A thought. A feeling. So, on occasion I write. Here. I write lots elsewhere, too. Because I love paper – books, Moleskines, Field Notes and other great notebooks. I love pens, too. I love to write. It doesn’t mean I’m good at it. It just means I love doing it. So I do.

It just seems aimless because my purpose has nothing to do with money, readership stats, or Google analytics. None of that matters to me. My love of writing is rather aimless. Just like my love of blogging (writing).

Like Elvis Costello, my aim is true.
